A Neapolitan Stabat Mater

The return of the unpublished manuscript of Stabat Mater, preserved in the Bibliothèque de Lyon, which Le Concert de l'Hostel Dieu performs. A version for five soloists, which goes beyond the ethereal character we know so well to give the work a heightened dramatic and theatrical dimension. Mixed with verses from Stabat Mater, traditional polyphony and haunting Neapolitan tarantella plunge listeners into the world of Holy Week in Naples, where sacred and secular music rub shoulders in churches and church squares. An alternation that underlines the links between the popular heritage of southern Italy and the cosmopolitan talent of Pergolesi.
