This project follows in the footsteps of Vivaldi reloaded and Metamorphosis, two of the Concert de l'Hostel Dieu's flagship projects that have won over audiences new to the Baroque repertoire as well as those accustomed to it. What all these creations have in common is that they highlight the links between the Baroque instrumental repertoire and the contemporary minimalist universe. There is, however, one notable difference that characterises Bach to minimalism : the fusion of the two sensibilities is taken further, to the point of offering a homogeneous, immersive continuum of sound. Drawing on the fascination of minimalist composers with the work of Bach, the programme matches the contrapuntal genius of the Leipzig cantor with the pop energy of the rhythmic textures of Steve Reich and Karl Jenkins, while the meditations of Arvo Pärt and Karl Jenkins echo the interiority of L’Art de la Fugue.
