A legendary enchantress brought to life by the musical geniuses of Charpentier and Händel.

The ancient myth of Medea has long fascinated artists. From Euripides to Delacroix and Pasolini, the storied sorceress of Greek mythology has captivated and appalled in turns. Fiery and extravagant, her kaleidoscopic personality inspired baroque composers to pen some of their most spectacular arias: within twenty years of each other, Marc-Antoine Charpentier (in his tragédie lyrique Médée) and George Frideric Handel (in his opera Teseo) fashioned two very different musical incarnations of Medea. Paired in this dramatic concert program, the masterpieces complement each other and provide two very revealing interpretations of the same legendary personality, both of which are brought to life on stage by the brilliant mezzo-soprano Lila Hajosi.
